Sketchbooks

Hardbound sketchbooks are necessary for Portfolio Prep – when applying to art programs, most will want to review your sketchbook in addition to your large finished pieces.

If you don’t have one already, you’ll want a hardbound sketchbook (often found with a black cover), with dimensions of at least 8.5 x 11 inches. (11 x 14 inches, the other popular size, is what I own.) Hardbound is more durable than spiral-bound, and you’ll want this to last.

Check the paper – does it feel sturdy, like it would be good to draw on? Paper that is too thin can often tear under the pressure of a medium like pen & ink.

You can purchase these at almost any art supply store, including Artware in Oneonta.
